Ciaté Velvet Manicure Kit｜Sophisticated Twist On Another Crazy Nail Trend

If you are familiar with these sumptuous Ciaté nail kits, then you know that they are not made for quick manicures or simple nail designs. Instead, application is often tedious, and the temporary result can be quite disappointing sometimes. This velvet manicure is no exception.

Each kit contains the following products.

•     Paint Pot Nail Polish (0.45 oz)
•     Crushed Velvet Powder
•     Little Black Brush
•     Clear plastic tray

As always, I like Ciaté polish. Its formula is easy to work with, and the adorable packaging is lovely. 2 coats are required for an even and opaque finish, but the finish is beautiful, and I find them (by themselves) very long-lasting on my nails. The good news is that many of them can be purchased individually.

And that's pretty much all I can praise about this set. Please excuse me if I sound a little harsh for the rest of this review because I can't mask my annoyance that I paid almost 20 bucks on a below average product.

Let's talk about the crushed velvet powder and its terrible packaging. You are suppose to lightly tap the bottle to release the powder. However, the design is so impractical that all of the powder gets stuck in those tiny holes. The more I shake the container, the worse it becomes. I can hardly get enough to cover my nails, so I have to improvise and use a tweezer to pick up the rest of them.

The crushed powder is oft and fine, but it's something you can easily get from a craft store for much cheaper. And you better prepare beforehand because the powder is going. to. get. everywhere. Cleaning after these Ciaté kits takes most of the fun out of them, and I usually end up getting more irritated rather than admiring the gorgeous result.

❶ One coat of polish.

❷ Two coats of polish.

❸ While the base is wet, sprinkle some crushed velvet powder onto the nails.

❹ Brush off excessive powder.

The powder can't stay glued onto the polish base. Within 10 minutes, there are barely any left on my nails.

I do love the matte, textured result, but I can't endure the messy and ridiculous application. I tried this same technique with velvet powder I ordered online. They work just fine and come with a much lower price tag.

Overall, I'm extremely disappointed. Ciaté created a very unique concept, but the execution is poor and not user-friendly. Unfortunately, the beautiful finish doesn't even last overnight, and given the price tag, this kit is not worth your time or money.
